I don't even know what to say.
Let me first apologize for not being online alot recently. I've been busy and wish I could have been on more, especially since this is happening.
I got home from basketball practice and opened up the internet. I checked a couple websites then opened Millsberry. I saw the headline and didn't pay much attention to it, so I read the little part first. Then I read the article and my jaw dropped when I finally realized what was happening. I opened MFF as fast as possible and saw just what I was expecting. Tons of people had been online today.
This is absolutely horrible news for all of us. I don't know what else to say. All the work that everyone has put into Millsberry is just gonna leave. Absolutely horrible. I love Millsberry and will miss it very dearly.
Millsberry has become a big part of all of our lives. I hate to see it go. I do hope that we all stick together here on MFF. Millsberry brought us together, and just because they are gone don't mean we have to leave with it. We can still have fun here on this site.
Now, we can try our best to stop this from happening. I'm afraid they won't listen, but we can try. I will be calling every day I can. I joined the Facebook page to save Millsberry, which only has 14 members, so all you Facebookers go join! I will provide my email to anyone who needs it for an email campaign.
I really really really hope that Mills doesn't leave us. Even if it does, I hope even more that this site continues on because I love it and its wonderful members more than I love Millsberry, believe it or not.
Millsberry was one of the very few places where EVERYONE could go to have good, clean fun. Parents would not worry about their young kids meeting some creep online. Everyone could have fun and it was SAFE.
I certainly hope whatever this "project" is someone mentioned that Mills is working on is as good if not better than Mills.
SAVE MILLSBERRY!

Words can't express how i feel right now, even if millsberry is "graduating" it doesn't mean we have to just leave each other like this, like Becky and others are saying we won't just leave we have to fight for what we like and this is fun! This is Millsberry "Friends" and "Family" let's all act like one and fight for what we think is right!

Only if Millsberry would just hand the website down to us like Clipperchipper said. It would be great. But we know that would never happen I was just looking around Millsberry. Looking at the first paper ever Heres a little part of it "Every day, Millsberry seems to grow just a little more. With new neighborhoods springing up over night, new businesses moving in and new families finding their way to our once small town, it seems like Millsberry will never be the same again!" Indeed it wont In fact it will be GONE Millsberry, I cant beleive you are leaving. I expected to be so happy today. I was like oh i cant wait to go trick or treating. Then its like What!? Millsberry is leaving!? no! I was Shocked that it was leaving. I was Angry that all my hard work was a waste. And i was just sad that its all going away. And it even seemed that the Real life gazzete workers were shocked from here it just sounds it "It all came as a pleasant surprise to us too, here at The Gazette" But they took it as a "Pleasant" surprise

Whoaaa man.
Okay. Like, I grew UP on Mills. I've played since I was like, 8. I'm about to be 14. It's not like I've been on recently or anything, but it was kind of comforting knowing I could get on at any time and feel younger again (God, do I LOVE that feeling). Like, I can already tell that I'm growing up way too fast. Mills was like... idk, just a way that I could do something I ADORED as a kid. I mean, I've already dropped Barbie, stuffed animals, Disney, original flavored bubble gum, my 8:00 bed time, those EPIC shoes that light up, and so much more. Mills was something that I quit, yes, but never for GOOD. I got on every few months to just check things, I guess. But this is still not the greatest news in the world.
I guess you could say it doesn't effect me a ton, but I'll still miss it.

Not to be a bummer but... I remember when the Disney site closed and my friend played that all the time and how upset she was. The Disney site had a huge following and members could not keep it open. In life there are changes....I hope we can find a good game for all of us to get interested in or that Mills comes thru on the "we have a new idea plan". I have made many friends on the forums and that makes me sad to think I will never chat with them again. I do hope that does not happen. Sad, Sad, Sad day............

I was very saddened to see that Millsberry will be closing at the end of this year. Yet, I realize how app-based games like farmville, which can be played on phones, through fb, and online have sped past Millsberry faster than you can say ah-choo.
For those who have worked years collecting things, I do not wish to say it was all a waste. We had a great time, and at this point, it is highly unlikely that General Mills will change their mind. After all, for them, Millsberry was not a game, but a marketing ploy. I'm sure they put it on their accounting books that way, and at the end of the day, it wasn't making money like other sections of the company do to make cereal.
I wouldn't be surprised if they came out with another gaming site eventually like was done with another cereal company (Post) around the time that Millsberry was launched. However, for this particular project, it probably isn't making them any money / translating into the sales they would like.
As with any economic recovery, there are cutbacks and decisions that are made. From a business standpoint, I feel that they made the right decision. From a player standpoint, I feel like my hard work is being thrown away, and I cannot do anything about it.
-Do I support this thread? Yes. -Do I think GM will change their mind? Not unless you paid them to!! -Do I still play Millsberry? No. -Do I wish Millsberry became app-based? Yes and no. There are positives and negatives to loading/playing/saving. -Is app-based really that expensive? I don't think so. They have new items out every week on app-based games. If GM was thinking ahead and was willing to invest in this, it would have been a great direction.

What? So now they're just being lazy. I've been waiting since September for Halloween on Millsberry. It's more exciting than the real trick-or-treating.
I'm making my own trophies and giving them out to everyone. This is just depressing.

I too am sorry to see Millsberry closing! Although I havent played much in the past year myself, I do like to play at least once a month for a change of pace! I cant speak for everyone, but I can say that my lack of interest for MB came from the greed of certain players and the cloning! I have played MB for several years and it was just disheartening to see some of the players that had only been playing for a few months to a yr have so much more than I had achieved in the years of hard work and dedication to the game! CLONING STINKS AND HAS CAUSED MB TO LOOSE ITS APPEAL THEREFORE ACTIVITY HAS GONE WAY DOWN! Just wanted to add my 2cents for what its worth!!!

Cottencandy certainly has made their point. I was just reading in an earlier post about two different perspectives. One perspective was that Millsberry was ending because of lack of popularity, and the second referred to cloning which may have been a factor of Millsberry ending. BUT, as Cottencandy just told us, the cloning and the popularity are dependent of each other.
Many people have stopped/decreased in playing time because of the cloning process, and how many citizens have gained skill level because of it. I believe that there is no "good side" to cloning. Many members have claimed that cloning is good if you are going to gift a friend or have a giveaway. But no- cloning decreases the value of items and is unfair to members.
Say you are making a trade for an item. Bill and Jill are going to trade. Bill has ONE Fangy Sue. Jill wants to trade her ONLY Jack-O-Ball for it. Bill doesn't want to lose his Fangy Sue, so he discreetly clones it without Jill knowing. Bill sends over his Fangy Sue to Jill. They now both have a Fangy Sue. Jill trades her ONE Jack-O-Ball, and now has ONLY a Fangy Sue. Bill has both the Fangy Sue and the Jack-O-Ball at the end of this trade. Is that fair to Jill? No. It's not.
Here's another example: Let's use Ben, Jen, and their friend Yen this time. Ben is hosting a GIVEaway. (Notice how the word GIVE is capitalized). Ben only has one of each item, say a Blue Bear and a Red Bear, and each one is worth 8 million Millsbucks. The reason they are worth so much is because there is only a limited supply of them. Jen claims the Red Bear, and Yen claims the Blue Bear. If Ben clones the Red Bear before giving it to Jen, the value of the Red Bear decreases because there are more than the previous amount. The Blue Bear's value stays the same (and isn't cloned), that wouldn't be fair to Jen, now would it?
These examples can go miles and into any scenario. This is especially important for trophies. Trophies are a common collectable in Millsberry. People clone trophies left and right. It's unfair for members that didn't deserve the trophies to own them. I remember back in 2009 when there was that Donation Contest. I worked my butt off, along with many other members, and we each received a reward for our doings. Yet there are members who weren't even CITIZENS of Millsberry during that time who own the same trophies today.
Does everyone understand that?

anyone else feel like their best friend just died? I do, too... It's so disappointing and sad...spending so much time on mills...collecting stuff, making rooms or just exploring around...Millsberry was indeed a great site. So what if they have less players now? The numbers can always increase...and anyway, they have such dedicated players like us here at MFF...they just can't snatch millsberry away from us like this! Things won't be the same this new year. What do you think, you'll really have a "Happy" New Year 2011, just when they shut down millsberry?

I think that if they are really closing. That they should make this the best year ever on millsberry. If they make some really fun activities for us to do on their like new games, locations, ect... I know there's no halloween and I was really looking forward to it but if they did something even better than halloween maybe it could maybe make us forget about millsberry closing (for a little bit). Because every day I come on millsberry and I always think right when get on millsberry is closing down. I really wish that they would change there mind. Millsberry was soo important to me and now they are closing

Millsberry was a fun place for all of us. I spent almost 4 years on it, and it is definitely my favorite website- and I'm sure that a lot of us could say the same. There are a few assumptions as to why Millsberry could be ending.
Millsberry WAS free. But they donated a lot of money (109,000 dollars) to charities around the world. Millsberry could be ending due to a money issue, but I doubt they'd donate so much money if money was honestly an issue. General Mills stated that they had ideas for "something that we all would enjoy". But they said that this "something" could take a year to create. They also will not give out any further details as of today.
Some say Millsberry is closing because too many people were cloning. I agree, cloning was a problem. Many people cloned for many reasons. Some people cloned to enhance their inventory and the elegancy of their house. And yes, you can tell if someone clones by the look of their house. Many people, and we all know who, clone for money. This was absolutely a problem for the Mills economy. It decreased the value of items, and people made millions, even billions off of this habit. Cloning was also done to gift other people with some of their needed items. Still, the person cloned, and it wasn't fair.
We've also heard that Millsberry is ending because of inactivity. This is the most logical reason for the dilemma. Millsberry used to get 9,000 members on a good day. On the weekends, I used to see up to 13,000 or 14,000 members online at once. Now a days, you'd be lucky to see 3,000. I can honestly tell you that Millsberry is more popular during Halloween and other events like Malawi. When there was that one donation contest, there were a lot of members that were active donating their items. To me, it almost looks like Millsberry set us up for this "Graduation". When was the last time Millsberry added something exciting in to Millsberry? I would say it was when the new Yardsale system came out. That was certainly fun, but there hasn't been anything good since that. It seems like Millsberry purposely made it boring so that members would stop playing, and so they could do this without as much trouble.
We don't really know why Millsberry has stopped. It's sad, yes- but maybe that new "something that we can all enjoy" will show up soon and we could join that instead. But for now, finish your Yearbooks and have fun on Millsberry while you can.

Cloning has nothing to do with this decision. Only a tiny fraction of players have even heard about cloning to begin with. I'm not jumping on the "All hail the Great General Mills bandwagon" simply because they've donated a small percentage of their earnings to various charities. All corporations do this. It saves them money on their taxes. I am furious that General Mills has let so many children and adults down with this decision. There is just no way to put a positive spin on their actions. Kids and grownups alike have started to go through a grieving process. It's like the death of a beloved friend and unconscionable for any company to bestow this upon loyal consumers of their products. Yes, I alternate between anger and sadness. It's truly a slap in the face to all of us to refer to this let down as "graduating."

What really gets me is that they call it "graduating". Just tell us the straight truth, will you? I mean, a couple of weeks ago, Mills built a new apartment building because so many people were "moving in", and now everyone's leaving?
I'm sorry, but I rather have the hard truth instead of this way of rephrasing.

I have not posted on this thread yet. But anyone who knows me knows I have been upset by Mills closing. I spent a lot of the last 5 years on Millsberry. My 10 year old son was the first one to tell me about the "graduation" . He was devastated when I told him it meant Mills was closing. He was upset and in tears because he said it was because I would not let him play on the computer on school days. But by the same token during his "computer time" Millsberry was often not even thought of. As far as General Mills donations the that amount is smaller than the eye of a needle in a haystack for the multi-million dollar company. I am not real thrilled by all their talk. The amount of time I have spent on Millsberry has decreased dramatically in proportion to the amount of cloning. And I was really annoyed when they took away the only way I could tell if an item was cloned or not. I will miss Millsberry. And I will not be buying as many of their products as I have been. Not as a protest. I just have no reason to be loyal to them anymore. As I am going to get the 20 boxes of fruit by the foot ready for the trick or treaters in my neighborhood in just a few hours. The powers that be within the company made the decision. I just wish they had let us trick or treat one last time.

Well, it still made everyone sad just the same. Anyhow, we have to still try and save Millsberry! Maybe there is a way to compromise with them? Like, maybe they won't completely shut down the site while they work on this "something new" part, but they could just not release anything new for a while.

"Graduating" is typically something to look forward to. The bulldozing of our beloved town doesn't jive with the concept. I have another question How do you go trick-or-treating on the website?? There's no trick or treating this year, Alex.

This week's Gazette had about one sentence that was different from the first week we heard it. Originality, anyone? Seriously, every week I feel less connected to Millsberry.
